Travel & TransportAviemore lies just off the A9 trunk road about 30 miles south of Inverness and 75 miles north of Perth and he UK motorway system. The village is served by its own mainline railway station (ScotRail and GNER) and is 35 miles from Inverness Airport.Scottish Citylink and National Express provide frequent coach services. However you choose to travel, you pass through some of Britain’s most stunning scenery – a taste of what lies ahead! Mountain bike hire and car hire is available locally.

Transport is provided to or from most walks for a small charge.

This will be waiting for collection at Festival HQ in the Cairngorm Hotel, Aviemore function suite on your arrival in Aviemore. The walks are free to registered walkers apart from those where a charge is indicated in the walks programme. Where transport is provided the charge is indicated in the walk details. Some walks are linear i.e. different start and finish points, so use of the provided transport is essential unless you make your own arrangements.

To help further our green aims, we introduced a car share scheme for 2006. We hope that all participants in the Walking Festival will join us in ensuring that vehicles going to walk starts and finishes have maximum occupancy.

Dogs are not permitted on walks as this is the time of year when ground nesting birds and very young animals are particularly vulnerable.

This does not apply to guide dogs accompanying registered blind or deaf walkers.
